Admissions

The Childrens ARK residential treatment and community based program accepts males and females ages 10-18 years of age.   The program is intended to treat non-violent juveniles with mental health maladjustments.

The admission procedure is the first treatment step in this comprehensive therapeutic treatment setting.  It is both an opportunity for a positive experience among the child, family, and provider, and an opportunity to promote program involvement.  The intake process strives to set a positive course for comprehensive treatment intervention.
Once an adolescent is referred to Childrens ARK, the Admission Department Staffing Committee reviews the specific case in order to determine appropriateness of residential or community based treatment.  Community and residential safety, as well as applicant’s safety, is considered.  Such material or understanding of level of risk, age, intelligence, secondary diagnostic features and drug and alcohol use, are all weighed in the admission process.

Because community based treatment is a privilege, the child must participate in the admission process.  The child must show a willingness to receive treatment and a commitment to complete the program.  The Residential Treatment Program at Childrens ARK is a balance between the individual rights of the child and the protection of the community in a manner that is both legally and ethically sound.  The highest priority pertaining to therapeutic treatment is community safety.  Whenever the needs of residents who have committed at-risk behaviors conflict with community safety, community safety takes precedence.
